Where were you when the lights came on?

Bridge Lighting 2012

The Christmas lights were officially lit at the walking bridge and around the Gazebo in Durham (Wednesday Dec. 5/12) tonight.  The master of the ceremonies for the event was Vi Wilson and the King's Kids, lead by Debbie Tucker sang Christmas Carols.  Vi Wilson also lead the general public in attendance in the singing of some Carols.  Bill McMeekin played the bag pipes as the lights were switched on, then lead the crowd across the bridge to the Durham Art Gallery.
This year's decorations include a new addition, that being a star atop the tree between the Gazebo and the Bridge.  As always, the whole area looks terrific and sets the tone for a wonderful Christmas season.  Hot chocolate was available at the Town Hall for young and not so young alike.  It was a beautiful evening and I congratulate the organizers on a great community event.

Santa Comes to Durham

Saturday December 1, 2012 was the big day for Santa Claus to make his annual pre-christmas visit to Durham.  A great crowd lined the main street for the Parade.  Participation was terrific as the procession of floats, horses, and various other entrants took in excess of half and hour to make its way up the main street.
Chief Berger was on hand to direct traffic prior to the parade.

Audrey and Elanor cooked up some gourmet hot dogs to raise funds for the food bank.
