The man who created the murals in the Town of Durham passed away recently. Allen Hilgendorf painted his first mural at the corner of Garafraxa and Lambton Street. I remember Allen as a kind soft spoken person with tremendous artistic talent. He gained my confidence and trust in a very short period of time, and subsequently amazed onlookers with every stroke of his paint brush. His work did wonders to brighten up our town, and gave travellers a reason to stop and look around or take a photo.
Allen Hilgendorf painted five murals in Durham, but in all has created over 100 works of art on buildings and large inside walls throughout Grey- Bruce. We are fortunate to have his legacy live on here in the Town of Durham - Thank you Allen.
