Today’s Rally provided a strong and clear confirmation to Grey County and West Grey politicians that Rockwood Terrace and its 100 Long Term Care beds, is considered by the public and local businesses as an essential pillar of West Grey and this regional area of Grey County.

The Rally included 300+ area residents, scores of supporting businesses  expressing their collective call for genuine reassurance that the current process to redevelop Long Term Care in this part of Grey County will keep the existing beds here.

Long Term Care beds remaining in West Grey provides:
  1. Ability for current and future residents of the Nursing Home to remain in their life long home community and accessible to their families and friends.
  2. An economic pillar in the area that provides numerous essential living wage jobs and other economic spin offs,
  3. A specific reason why many new retirees move into the area.  Some to be close to their relative being placed within Rockwood Terrace.  Others knowing that they can finish out all of their retirement years locally.
  4. A nursing home that helps attract new doctors and keep existing doctors because of the ability that they can continue to give local care for their elderly or more complex needs patients.
  5. A base of activity for the Durham hospital that helps maintain its viability as further financial pressures are placed on our provincial health care system.
  6. Facilities, resources, people and energy that provide a more complete, vibrant and healthy community.

The Save Rockwood Terrace community group represents residents and families, service clubs, seniors groups, as well as business and professional people concerned about the possible loss of the current 100 long term beds in Durham.
